ZANI – Dig The New Breed

The Secret Faces

“Anger is an energy” as Johnny Lydon AKA Johnny Rotten once sung, and at ZANI we certainly agree with this statement. Anger is an emotion that makes you want to take up arms and be heard, and one of the best ways to make the world sit up and listen is music.

This is exactly what a perky and powerful five-piece band from the Valleys of South Wales, called The Secret Faces are doing. Like their forefathers The Jam, The Who, The Buzzcocks, The Libertines and Oasis, these kids are pissed off….

With a name that seems to pay homage to Secret Affair and The Small Faces, here we have another collection of beautiful angry young man. The Secret Faces are Wayne Morgan (Vocals/Guitar), Jay Mills (bass), Josh Collier (guitar) and Anthony Hicks (drums). With gravelly vocals, a powerhouse rhythm section and two pronged guitar attack, their sound is full, melodic and edgy. The anger sweeps through, as the music hits you in the face with 100 per cent accuracy. These boys know how to pen a tune and they play their songs like their life depends on it, and that is surely a good thing.

2009 could be a good for them, as in2010 they have already won critical acclaim from the likes of Alan McGee (co-Founder Creation Records) , Ex The Jam Rick Buckler , John Hellier (Whapping Wharf) and a few more.

With a bit of lady luck The Secret Faces might go all the way. If they do, these lads will always have that heart-felt anger that has made them endearing to ZANI.

Our Generations Kids" - TOP - Twisted Wheel

"These guys are going places! Their raw sound, fronted by Wayne's gravelled vocals, gives them an edge that will see them stand above many of their contemporaries. I'm proud to promote their music on my show." David Crane (Teenage Kicks - Ace Radio)

The Secret Faces – Our Generation’s Kids.

The Secret Faces are a five piece band from the South Wales Valleys, who have just released new single “Our Generation’s Kids”.

The band have paid their dues in small local pubs around the valleys and have been tipped for the top by Oasis manager Alan McGee. They have been featured on BBC 1 Wales, GTFM Radio, GRRR GRRR Magazine, Tonight on the Radio (broadcast in New York) and have been a featured artist on Wales Unsigned.

The single is like a lucky dip of cross genre harmony. The infectious opening riff sounds like something straight out of the The Automatic’s back catalogue, and is partnered up by a cheekily skatastic rhythm guitar and equally two-toned drums. The vocals are reminiscent of Reef frontman Gary Stringer’s gravelly punch on top 10 hit “Place your hands”. All in all a suprisingly agreeable combination.

It’s a pleasant listen, the type of song you think you’ve heard before with it’s catchy rhythm and danceable beat, infact it wouldn’t seem out of place in the top flights of the indie chart. We can only imagine how this song goes down live, particularly after a few drinks in a South Wales venue on a Friday or Saturday night.
